Fear: Is Change the FIX?
Posted by admin on May 1st, 2008Tom Brokaw, former NBC news anchor, said, “Anxiety is the issue of the age.” Anxiety looms all around us now. Fear is palpable. Folks are concerned about job security, food and gasoline prices, meeting the mortgage every month. There is a lot of illness. Baby boomers hope to retire and as they do they are realizing that it will take twenty times their annual income to keep them to the end of their days (only 5% have that kind of retirement income). The medical systems are overburdened and these are serious, critical issues.
If we choose to eliminate fear we need to know how to define it. Fear is a programmed reaction to pain. The pain can be real or imagined and it can be mental, physical or emotional. Fear is a heart phenomenon. The heart overrides the head and the heart takes over. The body then slides into flight or fight mode. Memories are reactivated and played out in the head. All these things take place in response to a belief system that may or may not be correct!
Our FIGHT response kicks in if there is ANGER fueling the fear. If SADNESS is the trigger, we automatically wish to take FLIGHT. So we can understand that anger and sadness are created out of fear. There is also shame, wanting to make us hide, and confusion, where we seek solid ground.
So what is the remedy?
This is so simple you will wish you had thought of it yourself. The simple fix is a short term remedy but it provides relief. The long term remedy is a horse of a different color.
CHANGE THE CHANNEL. Our subconscious mind can multi task. Consciously we can only focus on one thing at a time So we give our subconscious mind a mini vacation by ‘changing the channel’.
Go for a walk. Meditate. Call your best friend. Lie on your back and study the clouds. Create a list of all the things you are grateful for. Think seriously and truthfully about your life. Concentrate on love. Love yourself enough to change the channel. Let love flow through your heart to the issue at hand. Really study the beauty around you, the sound of the music you hear, focus on excellence. Enjoy the wonder and the essence of who you are.
To address the long term issue of fear is more detailed and involves more than short term methods. The best way to deal with fear in the long run is to use energy medicine. Stress is on the rise and therefore, so is fear. Energy medicine is a highly effective modality in this regard.
