The Healthy and Wealthy You: Real People. Real Food. Really.

Posted by admin on March 26th, 2011

In order to be healthy OR wealthy, you need to eat REAL FOOD!

I found an ad in our newspaper that just made me want to WEEP.  The ad was full of hype about how all our favorite food combinations are on sale this week end.  They fancy we should stampede through their doors and buy all this JUNK instead of real food.  Real people need real food!

The sad truth of the matter is that people WILL flock to stores everywhere to get what they can afford to buy to fill the tummies of the people they love best.  Here are just a few examples of what I mean:

  1. Young mommies will buy soy formulas for their babies
  2. Tired families will load their shopping carts with chips and crackers.
  3. Working men and women will purchase plastic packages of lunch meats.
  4. People of every size and shape will load up on soda pop.
  5. Shoppers will fill their pantries with canned soups.
  6. Hungry folks will buy peanut butter and cheese “food” that is filled with inedible materials.
  7. People who are determined to cook at home will opt for “helper” products which are loaded with toxicity.
  8. Those who do take time to eat breakfast will choose cold cereals that are devoid of nourishment.
  9. Shopping lists will include non-foods like margarine.

Shoppers will not make these choices because they are bad people.  They make these choices because they have become a habit, or they simply have not learned about the choices that would be better.  They choose the foods in our example because they can afford them.  AFTER ALL, THEY ARE LISTED IN THE SALE BILLS.  They buy these things because they presume that since the items sit on a grocery shelf, they are  automatically edible.

Not so.

Let me say that soy formulas, soy milk, soy products by any name are not good for human consumption because they interfere with hormonal function.

Chips and crackers are not good sources of vitamins or minerals, the fuel that makes the body go, no matter how good their advertising campaigns make them out to be.  Baked not fried?  No matter.  They are packaged, processed.  NO GOOD.

Soda pop and luncheon meats with all their toxic ingredients can ultimately lead to issues with the pancreas, neurological problems and dehydration.  Weight management is nearly impossible if soda pop is ingested.

Canned goods of every description are loaded with MSG or hydrolyzed protein or “emulsifiers” which might very well be powdered U.S. currency! As Jack Paar used to say, “I kid you not.”  Do you want your children eating toxic additives?  I don’t think so.

“Helper” products are a losing proposition.  The junk that is contained in those “cheap” boxes are not good for people.  You can help the flavor of the foods you cook by adding salt and pepper and spices that do not cost a fortune.  Even when helper products are offered at ‘Ten for a Dollar’ you have to know you are buying trouble!

Cold cereals are convenient, to be sure.  But they are processed and so not nutritious.  You can cook up a pot of hot cereal quick as a bunny if only you PLAN AHEAD.  And you will save a king’s ransom!

Are you  using margarine?  It’s plastic.  Cheap peanut butter has lard in it. Your body has no way of digesting margarine and lard clogs up all your plumbing.  Butter is a much better option.  Real peanut butter is far more preferable.  In the long run, these items will be cheaper.

The bottom line is that real people need real food.  Whole food.  Fresh food, if it’s available.  Frozen is acceptable; use canned if you must.

In 1936 our own government declared that the soils used for agriculture was depleted.  How much more depleted must they be by now?  It is really important that we grow as much of our own food as possible and where that is not feasible, we must find real food for our tables.  Even then, supplementation is critically important.

It’s possible your grocery list has now been seriously affected.  I hope you’ll consider these points and adjust your shopping list accordingly, because YOU are an important feature of this blog, The Healthy and Wealthy YOU.  We want you to be well and properly nourished.  Your health AND your wealth depend on that!

Real Guys can teach you how Real Money is earned...FOR REAL!

If you are busy working on the internet you have no doubt come across marketers who are less than forthcoming.  They often exaggerate their earnings or your potential.  It’s frustrating and disheartening.  Sometimes it’s COSTLY to you.

I have a breath of fresh air for you.  Jeff Wellman, Paul Counts, and Eric Holmlund have partnered to bring you Real Guys Marketing and it is really a very exciting program.  There is no pie in the sky blather from them.  They are husbands and dads who have learned how to navigate cyberspace well enough to make a living from their efforts and they are sharing their knowledge with YOU and ME so we can do the very same thing, if that’s what we choose.

They are internet marketers, to be sure.  But more than that, they are teachers. They want US to know what they know so we can do what they have done.

You really owe it to yourself and those you love to scope them out.  Go here:

Real Guys.  Real Money.

I’m TELLING you, it will be a breath of fresh air and you may even have a giggle or two as you get to know these three.

Real Guys.  Real Money.

If you are all about being your best, doing your best work, and having another stream of income for your family, you need this good information.

The Healthy and Wealthy YOU During the Holidays?

Posted by admin on November 22nd, 2010

No need to sacrifice your good health over holiday fuss...here is some pragmatic wisdom for you:

How to Have More with Less at Christmas
by Jill Cooper and Tawra Kellam

After laying down my last women’s magazine telling me how to be less stressed during the holidays, I’m even more confused and stressed then ever! On one page I’m told to take time for myself and indulge in a lovely spa bath. That sounds great, but I can hardly find time for a shower on a slow day in June let alone take a spa bath the week before Christmas.

As I turn the page, I’m told to give all my friends and family homemade ornaments to which I have lovingly glued 500 beads, each the size of a grain of sand. OK I’ll admit I’m not a rocket scientist, but I am baffled when I try to imagine how I could accomplish these two things even if I didn’t have an ever growing list of Christmas preparation tasks. Hmmm… Maybe I could lay in my spa bath carefully gluing on beads to ornaments throughout the night.

As I read on, there are articles telling me how not to gain weight at Christmas parties. Isn’t that like telling a three year old to not get dirty while making mud pies?

But it gets better. They then tell you to eat a meal before you go to the party. What? Is that some kind of new diet where you lose weight by eating two meals in the evening instead of one? If it is then I’m all for it. I mean really — who eats four carrot sticks and five pieces of celery at home then arrives at a party where they have pecan pie, five different types of fudge, 10 dozen cookies and egg nog and says “Oh no, I really couldn’t eat a thing. I’m sooooo full…?” Excuse Me! Doesn’t anyone live in the real world any more?

To top it all off -and the part I like the best- is after they tell us how to get rid of stress and not gain weight, they give us 10 pages of recipes for Christmas cookies made with real butter and cream that are decorated so elaborately in the pictures that it probably took a trained kitchen staff of 10 a week to make each cookie.

If you are like me and can’t stand that kind of stress, try some of these Christmas ideas to help you have a relaxed and Merry Christmas:

  • Don’t over-spend - It may be tempting to fixate yourself on the sparkling look in little Johnny’s eye when he sees that $300 play car under the tree. Advertising people are really good at feeding many parents’ fantasies of their children thinking that mom and dad are the superheros for shelling out the cash and looking fondly back on that moment for the rest of their lives. The reality, though, is that most kids have lost all interest in that particular toy long before the credit cards are paid off.
  • When we were growing up, my mom pulled out all of the stops at Christmas to make it as wonderful for us as she possibly could. The funny thing is that now that we are grown, the things we remember the most fondly are mom’s red Jello salad – made with red hots – yummy! – and sitting together and reading the Christmas story before opening our presents. I can’t remember what presents I received, but I always look back fondly on the Christmas story.
  • Do a few things well - Instead of trying to do everything and ending up depressed with how it all turns out, focus your energy on a couple of things that are the most important to you. You may be tempted to extravagantly decorate every room in your house, but if you don’t have the time or energy, focus on one room, like a living or family room. If your entire house is beautiful but you have to go see a therapist when it’s all over, the romantic mystique will be lost. Trust me, I know about this one from personal experience.
  • Limit activitiesDon’t commit to do too many things. One or two parties during the holiday season will make you get all tingly in that “It’s a Wonderful Life” kind of way. Two or three parties a week may send you over the edge, especially if you have kids.  Refer to my therapist comments above.
  • This also applies to all of those appealing looking activities around town like Victorian Christmas events, Christmas celebrations at the zoo or winter carnivals. One or two can be a lot of fun, but too many will ruin the fun.
  • Limit cookie baking. Don’t try to make 15 different kinds of cookies like Martha Stewart. She may look like she is super woman, but did you know she has a lot of people that help her? How much help do you get with your baking? I mean real help, not your five year old who makes everything twice as difficult for you. This is great for grandma, but you have to see your daughter every day and grandma can send her back when the house is sufficiently covered in flour. Again, pick your two or three most favorite or traditional cookies to bake and celebrate the fact that you had few enough priorities that you remembered to put the sugar in them.

  • Everything doesn’t have to be homemade. I know that we advocate making your own stuff, but Marie Callender’s makes some great pies that you can pass off as homemade if you want to soothe your guilty Martha Stewart conscience. In 20 years, your kids will look fondly back on it as the best pie they ever had. Seriously, if you are making things homemade just to save money, remember that some things like candies and pies are often more expensive to make homemade, especially if you cut your finger while slicing the apples. Don’t ask me how I know, just trust me on this one.

These aren’t the only things you can do to reduce your stress, but if you stick to doing a few things well, you can truly relax and enjoy the season with your family. In the end, they would rather have fond memories of their time with you than memories of how strung out mom was after she burned the cookies.

The Healthy and Wealthy You: Here’s To YOU and Eating Well!

Posted by admin on September 8th, 2010

Cheers! Here is to YOUR vibrant good health!

Who doesn’t love to eat?  People who gather talk about the weather but eventually the conversation turns to the topic of food, isn’t that so?

What to eat and how to prepare it can be a dilemma.  Some people are working full time; they may even hold down two jobs just to keep body and soul together.  Others don’t like to cook.  There are folks who declare they have no time to shop for foodstuffs and furthermore, they may not know HOW to cook.  I actually know people who insist they do not have a clue WHAT to purchase for their meals.

People like those risk their wealth AND their health by habitually eating in cafes, ordering take-out or plucking something from a grocer’s freezer to microwave.

SIDEBAR: Microwaving can be hazardous to your health and wealth.  It is highly advisable NEVER, NEVER to use a microwave oven under any circumstances! END SIDEBAR.

But your humble blogger digresses.

If you struggle to manage your menus you will find The Dinner Diva of utmost value. You might like to see what she has to offer.  It will amaze and delight you, I’m quite sure.

The Dinner Diva can help you with your wealth management, also.  She can help you save money with her shopping tips, recipes, planning ideas AND she has a strong affiliate marketing program that can help you earn money.

The Healthy and Wealthy You: Apparel Diet?

Posted by admin on August 31st, 2010

Does your closet need to undergo an "Apparel Diet"?

One of my guilty pleasures is  listening to radio shows with lots of conversation.   I recently overheard a chat about a woman who was concerned about protecting her wealth so she proposed to her friends that they all endeavor to put themselves on an “Apparel Diet.”

They were mortified!  Here’s why:  No purchases of any clothing was allowed for any reason for one whole year.  No new outfits.  No new jewelry and no cheating-nothing could be purchased from a second hand store, a consignment shop or their neighbor’s yard sale!  The friends were so sure they could not do it that they challenged themselves to go for one entire calendar year without buying one single article of clothing for themselves.  The idea was to save money, delay gratification and be kind to the planet in the process.  Besides, it gave them an entire year to cull their closets.

According to the woman whose idea it was, this was a gruelingly difficult task in the beginning.  Everyone in the group maintained that online shopping would be undetected by the others but nobody could live with that kind of guilt.  There were so many temptations.  Some of the participants finally decided to put their credit cards into the freezer in a container of water just so credit would not be accessible when the cards froze!

After a year they were allowed to buy one item of clothing.  Most chose to buy shoes.  The most surprising things to this group was:

  1. They could actually DO this
  2. Most women wore out two pairs of jeans during the challenge year.

What do YOU think about an Apparel Diet?  Could you do it?  Do you need to curb your spending? Is your closet bulging?  Your spouse’s?

We would love to hear your take on this subject.  We at The Healthy and Wealthy You are sure that delaying gratification can be very healthy.  Even though the economy begs for our consumer dollars to be spent, we might be wise to take a page from this group’s playbook and give it a try.

What will you do with YOUR unspent dollars?

The Healthy and Wealthy You: Art Begs You to Notice?

Posted by admin on August 25th, 2010

This handsome artwork is proudly displayed in our home! The artist is Ralph P. Brown, a Mohawk Indian and world renowned artist who specializes in pointillistic impressions!

It’s true that art begs to be noticed.

Fine art is essential to our well being, just as good food, rest, exercise and water are essential to life.  The energy of art work helps to balance the energy of the beholder.  It’s mystical.  It’s magical.  And it is incredibly important.

Even toddlers who visit our home are fascinated by the painting shown above.  Those little people look at it longer than you’d expect their attention span to hold and they seem to be genuinely in awe of the creation.

So am I.  To think that we have Ralph P. Brown’s art work on our wall is just mind boggling to me.  Some of his pieces make me weep because they–HE- is so incredible.

Ralph P. Brown is a self-taught artist.  He uses a stipple style-little dots- in order to create the pointillistic impressions of his cultural and spiritual ideas. He draws inspiration from his native culture, Mother Nature and his unique perspective on the world.  Ralph P. Brown is a spiritual giant.  And he and his bride are our dear, close friends.

Ralph recognizes that art reveals something intrinsically glorious about itself, the artist, and the beholder.  He understands that his art pieces reflect The Self the way a mirror reflects an image.

You might say we are his “Art Groupies” because we have his paintings on the wall; we wear Tee Shirts with images he created printed on them; and our bookshelves are lined with volumes he penned.  The man is a leader, a teacher, and a healer.

Don’t take my word for it.  Visit his site.  Go to his virtual Art Gallery, Mirrored Windows and see for yourself what he has brought to life.  But I’m warning you: It might take your breath away.  And do  bring along a tissue because you might be like me and be moved to tears a time or two.

When you have seen his incredible, awesome offerings, please come back here and comment about what you saw and how it made you FEEL, won’t you please?

The Healthy and Wealthy You is Expressive

Posted by admin on August 24th, 2010

From incarceration comes introspection...

One of the things your humble blogger immerses herself in on a weekly basis is to help sponsor a Toastmaster club.  Toastmasters, International is a speech making and leadership training group where, in this case, men behind prison walls are encouraged to become the best they can be.

It works really well.  The club at our local state prison, LibOrators 986233 (catchy name, don’t you think?) has welcomed prison inmates as members and they have willingly opened their ranks to people on the streets, as well.

There is no way to describe the joy and encouragement these guys get from visitors who come from ordinary lives as engineers, retirees, pastors’ wives and farm service employees as well as  members of Toastmaster clubs outside the prison walls.  It means the world to them to see familiar faces who come to be present with the men and listen to them-not only with their ears but  with their hearts.

One of the guys asked me recently if I ever blogged about the club.  Yes, long ago and far away.  I had been thinking it was time to take out bragging rights again.  This man’s question nudged me into action.

Another inmate brought us to tears when he shared this writing of his own creation:

“SPLIT”

I know the pain in your eyes.

What was done can never be erased.

The memories are always there.

Changes won’t take away the fear.

Family is the bond of life;

Truth is the safeguard of lies.

Love give the strength to live-

My life is no longer my own.

Loved ones come before my desires.

Your love pierces my heart, my soul.

Words will never fix all that’s broken.

My love for you is an undying love.

The life I lived was unfair to you.

I thought my problems were my own

Now you will know my heart and soul.

Secret is not a word I will know.

I will take off my mask only for you.

We will experience this all

As one soul split in two lives.

–BMQ, August 2010

The kid who wrote and presented this poem is a gangly, boyish fellow whose arms are long enough to move like windmills.  His feet and ears are as big as can be and his winning smile matches them in size.  He came to the club as a shy and immature child.  In a matter of months and having learned for certain that he is a young father, his demeanor completely changed.  He quickly matured into a thoughtful, caring and sensitive young adult who now pays attention to detail.  He shows us he has become a more mannerly member; his speeches have become more thoughtful and expressive and meaningful because his life has taken on new perspectives and new priorities.

You can read about visits to prisons and the pat searches, the clanging of the gates, the noise on the yard and all the rest of it.  What people don’t always realize is that these men made terrible choices and serious errors in their lives and they are paying dearly.  Prison is no fun and sometimes it’s the pits.  More than that, it can be a degrading, humiliating, lonely place that makes guys feel alienated from reality.  BMQ’s piece gives you a new perspective about prisoners.

In your quest for Health and Wealth, I hope you will come to visit our club some Monday night.  Get your paperwork in order because they don’t let just anybody behind those walls.

You can learn more about Toastmasters by clicking here.

If you are in hot pursuit of health, go here.  If wealth pushes your hot button, go here.

Want to know what else is recommended?  GO HERE. AND HERE.

We hope you stop by again soon.  We also hope you chime in by leaving a comment on this page.  Thanks!

The Healthy and Wealthy YOU: Are YOU Marinating?

Posted by admin on April 11th, 2010

If we aspire to health and wealth, we need to know the facts and get the help we'll all need!

I know a woman, Mary, whose husband passed away after a very long battle with heart disease.

The couple had revised their lifestyles, their diets and their habits in every way they could.  She cared for him to the last, making sure he had the correct food in his diet, counting out his medications, fluffing his pillow, and visiting the doctor with him.

After he had been gone a good while, this woman became interested in alternative healing and took some classes.  What she learned could have helped her husband if only they had known then what she knew now.

One of the most astonishing things she discovered was that the medication that she doled out for her husband all those decades had gone into HER system and traces of it showed up years and years after her husband had passed away!

Today I saw an article written by Dr. William Campbell Douglas II that indicated we actually marinate in a toxic soup of other peoples’ medicines, fluoride, nasty matter of every sort each time we bathe or shower!

EEEEW!

Well, some people might marinate themselves but we are blessed to have a system that cleans the water we use.  That’s another whole blog post.  Maybe even another website.

SIDEBAR:  If this is an issue for you, please get the straight skinny about water that IS beneficial by visiting these folks: Water that supports health but allows your wealth to remain intact.
END SIDEBAR.

Alternative healing sometimes flies in the face of what traditional medicine dictates.  The reason for this is that alternative caregivers are more interested in prevention and wellness, balance and cooperation than some of the traditional medical professionals.  At any rate, this is your humble blogger’s personal experience.

What is YOUR stance on this issue?  We are very much interested in the stories of your experiences.  We cordially invite your comments on this page!

True wealth is greatly dependent on the state of our health and well being.  If we are not well, we cannot sustain or create wealth.  And as we all know, you can’t be too well or too rich!
If you are something of a health nut, you might like to cruise on over to Mother Connie Sez for her take on health and healing.  She has a LOT to say.  You might be more interested in generating some wealth.  That could take you to Rapid Cash Review or Work At Home Freelancing; these are geared to teaching how to make money from home.   There are goodies to be had for submitting your name and email to those sites.
